Cervical cancer screening is a test to check for precancerous cells or cervical cancer in women. The most common screening test is the Pap test (or Pap smear), which is done during a pelvic exam. A small sample of cells is taken from the cervix and examined under a microscope for abnormal cells. Another test that may be done is a test for human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a common cause of cervical cancer. These tests can help find cervical cancer early when it is most treatable. Cervical Cancer Screening Singapore is recommended for women aged 25 to 69 years old. The screening test recommended by the Ministry of Health is the Pap smear test, which is done every 3 years for women aged 25 to 49, and every 5 years for women aged 50 to 69.
